There was both a varsity and a junior varsity performance ensemble during the 1999 winter guard season. The Junior Varsity earned a bronze medal at State Finals for their performance in B Class. Color guard was introduced as an elective class within the music program in the 1999-2000 academic year. Jeff High School's Winter Guard is an all-volunteer group, as is the Color Guard and Marching Band. Ten of the 20 1998 winter guard members were freshmen participating for the first time in Winter Guard. An additional 5 upperclassmen were also first year performers. Many members of the Winter Guard also participate in the Jefferson Marching Band Color Guard Director Jeff Sterrett, and Technicians Pamela Fields and Abby Yankovich were all alumni of the Jefferson program. The JHS Performance Ensemble was promoted to Open Class competition in Indiana in 1998 following their 1997 State Runner Up Title in Scholastic A. The JHS Performance Ensemble has been IHSCGA State Finalists in 1994, 1995 and 1997. The JHS Performance Ensemble has competed in seven WGI Regional Finals. The JHS Performance Ensemble won Best Color Guard at ISSMA District Contest in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996.
